This chapter highlights the specific practices and successful strategies employed in Dutch intensive greenhouse cultivation, renowned for its technological sophistication. It provides an overview of protected chrysanthemum cultivation, emphasizing key environmental requirements, including light management (photoperiod, intensity, and spectrum), temperature control, relative humidity, ventilation, and CO2 regulation. The chapter also explores cultural practices for both cut and potted chrysanthemum production, covering planting, irrigation, fertilization, and the regulation of photoperiod and temperature to optimize growth and flowering. Additionally, essential horticultural techniques, such as pinching and disbudding, are detailed to enhance plant architecture and bloom quality across different chrysanthemum types, including sprays and disbuds. Furthermore, recent advancements such as multilayer rooting systems for enhanced rooting efficiency, the integration of robotics-driven approaches, and the adoption of modern technologies such as plug-based rooting systems and hydroponics are discussed. These innovations contribute to sustainability and efficiency in chrysanthemum cultivation. However, while the techniques presented in this chapter reflect the state-of-the-art Dutch greenhouse practices, they may not be universally applicable.
