Age-Friendly Indoor and Outdoor Environments to Promote the Sense of Community

As global populations age, we must create safe and inclusive environments that support well-being and enable older people to continue to engage and contribute to society. Crucially, older people themselves need to be involved at all stages and be empowered to participate fully. This chapter considers the importance of older person involvement in environmental design and presents three case studies that prioritized person-centered principles to co-create and co-design enhanced spaces and places. The three case studies present innovative European research projects which focus on developing more age-friendly cities.
