New faunistic data on freshwater mites (Acari: Hydrachnidia, Halacaridae) from Great Britain and Ireland

This paper brings together unpublished records of freshwater mites (Acari: Hydrachnidia and Halacaridae) collected and identified by Terence Gledhill (1933-2022), and records of freshwater mites collected by other workers and groups sent to Terence Gledhill for identification. Eleven species are recorded for the first time from the British Isles: Diplodontus scapularis (Dugés, 1843), Tartarothyas romanica Husiantinschi, 1937, Torrenticola (s. str.) dudichi (Szalay, 1933), Albia stationis Thon, 1899, Kongsbergia walteri Motaş, 1928, Parabrachypoda montii (Maglio, 1924), Atractides (s. str.) inflatipes Lundblad, 1956, A. (s. str.) remotus Szalay, 1953, Limnesia undulatoides Davids, 1997, Limnohalacarus mauritzi Romijn & K.Viets, 1920, Soldanellonyx visurgis K.Viets, 1959. Additionally, eleven species are newly recorded from England: Eylais tantilla Koenike, 1897, Vietsia scutata (Protz, 1923), Lebertia (s. str.) castalia K.Viets, 1925, Lebertia (s. str.) cognata Koenike, 1902, L. (s. str.) maglioi Thor, 1907, L. (Mixolebertia) dubia Thor, 1899, Sperchon (s.str.) longirostris Koenike, 1895, Kongsbergia vietsi Halbert, 1944, Ocybrachypoda celeripes K.Viets, 1910, Neumania limosa (Koch, 1836), and Arrenurus (s. str.) cuspidifer Piersig, 1896. Twelve species are newly recorded from Scotland: Panisellus thienemanni K.Viets, 1920, Lebertia (s. str.) sparsicapillata Thor, 1905, Monatractides madritensis (K.Viets, 1930), Torrenticola (Megapalpis) thori (Halbert, 1944), Aturus brachypus K. Viets, 1936, Feltria (s. str.) cornuta Walter, 1927, F. (s. str.) minuta Koenike, 1902, Hygrobates (s. str.) longiporus Thor, 1898, Piona recurva Lundblad, 1920, Arrenurus (s. str.) nobilis Neuman, 1880, Soldanellonyx chappuisi Walter, 1917, and Soldanellonyx monardi Walter, 1919. Seven species are newly recorded from Ireland: Panisellus thienemanni K.Viets, 1920, Feltria (s. str.) subterranea K.Viets, 1937, Atractides (Tympanomegapus) pavesii Maglio, 1905, Limnesia undulata (Müller, 1776), Limnohalacarus wackeri (Walter, 1914), Soldanellonyx chappuisi Walter, 1917 and Porolohmanella violacea Walter, 1917.
