Unilateral nasal agenesis and ipsilateral supernumerary nostril: A case report and literature review

Congenital malformations of the nose account for a very small proportion of craniofacial anomalies, and within this category, supernumerary nostrils are extremely rare. Supernumerary nostrils may occur in isolation or as part of a polymalformation. We report a case of unilateral nasal agenesis with a supernumerary nostril on the same side, emphasizing the difficulties of the various diagnostic and therapeutic approaches. A six-day-old neonate was referred to us for the treatment of a congenital malformation of the nose. Clinical and paraclinical examinations concluded that the patient had unilateral nasal agenesis with an adjacent supernumerary nostril. Following a multidisciplinary consultation, it was decided that the supernumerary tract should be removed and the left lateral wall of the nasal cavity reconstructed. The patient was subsequently lost to follow-up.
