Analysis of Ashoka's Dhamma Policy

Abstract: The Dhamma policy formulated by the Mauryan Emperor Ashoka represents one of the most significant ethical–political experiments in Indian history. After the Kalinga War, Ashoka renounced violent imperial expansion and established a system of governance based on humanity, non-violence, tolerance, and social welfare. This article comprehensively examines the philosophical background, sources, major features, administrative implementation, historians’ interpretations, and the historical significance of Ashoka’s Dhamma policy.
