Books of Occasional Services and Other Supplemental Books

Abstract While the Book of Common Prayer has been the principal liturgical resource for churches of the Anglican Communion for nearly five hundred years, it has not been the only such resource. Other resources have supplemented the Book of Common Prayer, from The Book of Homilies to the plethora of books and digital materials available among Anglican Provinces today. These supplemental liturgical resources have played an important role in the development of Anglican liturgies throughout the Communion by attending to pastoral needs not covered by the fully authorized Prayer Books of each Province, by allowing Provinces to address theological and pastoral issues that some might deem controversial, and to provide alternative resources in Provinces for whom comprehensive Prayer Book revision is untenable.
