Decentralized Health Monitoring: A Blockchain Approach to Patient Data Security

Blockchain technology is increasingly recognized as a transformative approach in healthcare, especially for managing, storing, and sharing medical data. While current methods mainly focus on secure handling of Electronic Health Records (EHRs), the framework proposed here adds two key features: a doctor verification system that ensures only authorized practitioners can access sensitive records, and a patient-centered reminder module to support timely management of appointments and medications. The architecture consists of three main components—secure record management, doctor registration and verification, and intelligent reminders. Additionally, the framework combines blockchain with the InterPlanetary File System (IPFS) and Internet of Things (IoT) modules, improving both security and accessibility. This paper presents the architecture, methodology, and implementation, and discusses the potential benefits and challenges, highlighting the ability of decentralized healthcare systems to provide tamper-resistant, transparent, and patient-focused solutions.
