[Eosinophilic Gastrointestinal Diseases: Diving beyond the Tip of the Iceberg].

Eosinophilic Gastrointestinal diseases (EGID) are group of chronic inflammatory diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, characterized by infiltration of eosinophils in its layers. These diseases can affect any organ in the GI tract, and can be classified to subgroups according to the anatomical organ involved: Esophagus - Esoniphilic Esophagitis (EoE), Stomach - Eosinophilic Gastritis (EoG), Small Intestine - Eosinophilic Enteritis (EoN) and Colon - Eosinophilic Colitis (EoC). The pathogenesis is not fully understood, but it is likely to involve a combined interaction between hereditary and environmental factors.
