Altruism, Emotional Intelligence, and PRM: A Metacognitive Framework for High-Stakes Leadership

High-stakes leadership decisions require metacognitive control. The Psychonics Recovery Method (PRM) is introduced as a structured framework for decision-making. Drawing on the empathy–altruism findings of C. Daniel Batson and the emotional intelligence leadership model advanced by Daniel Goleman, this paper argues that effective leadership cannot be separated from emotional processing. Batson’s experimental research demonstrates that empathy fundamentally alters motivational structure, activating altruistic behavior independent of self-interest. Goleman’s organizational research reveals that emotionally intelligent leadership directly shapes climate, performance, and relational stability. While both bodies of work establish the centrality of emotion in human behavior, neither provides a sequential, teachable method for regulating emotion under pressure. PRM fills this gap.
