Basilea III, el efecto agudo del sector bancario en México

In 2010, the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision (BCBS) introduced the Basel III agreement, a set of international standards focused on capital and liquidity regulation. These measures were adopted by G-20 countries with the goal of strengthening global financial stability and improving supervision of the banking system. Basel III emerged in response to financial crises such as Argentina’s in 2001 and the global crisis of 2008, highlighting the need for a stronger regulatory framework. This agreement is based on three pillars: capital requirements, prudential supervision, and market discipline. In Mexico, the Bank of Mexico (Banxico) enforces these regulations, promoting best practices and greater transparency in the financial system. As a result, Basel III has had a significant impact on strengthening Mexico’s banking sector, improving risk management and the resilience of financial institutions in the face of potential crises.
