MUSEUS E ACERVOS LINGUÍSTICOS: ENTRE A MEMÓRIA E A EXPERIÊNCIA

This article examines (meta/epi)linguistic collections in the contemporary Brazilian context, approaching them through an expanded concept of archive and discussing their implications for Linguistic Historiography (LH). Drawing on epistemological revisions that have redefined the status of archives in the humanities, it argues that such collections are not passive repositories of sources but dynamic constructs of knowledge, embedded in specific historical, institutional, and sociocultural contexts. Within this framework, six initiatives are analyzed: Centro de Documentação em Historiografia Linguística (CEDOCH/USP); Catálogo de Gramáticas da Língua Portuguesa developed by the research group HGEL (UFPB/CNPq); Dossiê de Gramáticas e Dicionários do Português (FBN/FCRB); Web-Museu da Gramática (MuGra/UFU/FAPEMIG); Museu da Língua Portuguesa (MLP); and Museu de Itinerários Linguísticos of the Instituto Serendipe (MILIS). For each case, the study presents its historical development, objectives, curatorial and cataloguing criteria, organizational structures, and modes of access. The analysis mobilizes methodological tools from LH and contemporary museology, with particular attention to conceptions of language and modes of organizing metalinguistic knowledge. It contends that the relationship between archives and LH entails a constitutive tension between historiographical retrospection and memorial projection, requiring metaconsciousness regarding processes of selection, canonization, and exclusion. Finally, it emphasizes that the production, maintenance, and dissemination of such collections constitute not merely documentary practices but epistemological interventions that shape the heuristic conditions of research, the training of scholars, and the social circulation of linguistic knowledge, reaffirming the role of archives both as historiographical objects and as critical infrastructures for the development of the field.
