The current terminology of male and female pattern hair loss may be obsolete

Androgenetic alopecia (AGA) is the most common cause of hair loss in men and women. Conventional terminology to describe AGA variants reflects the underlying typical presentation of men and women who are cisgender; that is, individuals whose sex assigned at birth is congruent with their sense of gender alignment. We suggest other descriptors that would more precisely describe the hair loss phenotype while avoiding offence through misgendering.
