This article examines the early‑March Romanian traditions surrounding Mărțișor (a traditional Romanian spring talisman made of a red‑and‑white braided string, symbolizing protection, renewal, and the transition from winter to spring) and International Women’s Day through the lens of human rights and gender equality. Positioned against a global backdrop of conflict, social instability, and the erosion of civic safeguards, the text argues that the dignity and safety of women constitute non‑negotiable pillars of any society that claims adherence to democratic norms.
