Teaching Strategies, Support, and Equipment Used by Orientation and Mobility Instructors with Visual Impairment

Abstract Orientation and mobility (O&M) instructors teach their students with blindness or low vision to travel throughout their environments using nonvisual strategies. Five past studies investigated strategies used by O&M instructors who had blindness or low vision. This is a culmination of the strategies gleaned from these past studies and summarizes the common themes and strategies used by O&M instructors with blindness or low vision. In addition, the authors’ professional experience and observations are included in this article.
