Structure of a deep eutectic solvent system suitable forcryopreservation of biological material– glycerol/proline - GARVEY

In this study we would like to study the structure of a deep eutectic solvent formed by a mixture of glycerol and proline. These solvents have considerable potential for applications such as chemical synthesis, food processing and cryopreservation. Neutron diffraction combined with selective deuteration as well X-ray based total scattering are powerful complementary structural perspectives on these solvent systems which allow us to elucidate some detail of the molecular packing. We will extend this work to understand the interaction of this solvent system with water.
