Using Design Thinking to Develop Perinatal Education in the Faith Community

The United States has a poor record of maternal and infant morbidity and mortality. To meet perinatal educational needs, a community-engaged project in Wisconsin with a human-centered design/design thinking model was used to develop the MaternityMetrix web app. Throughout the development of the app, feedback was sought from faith community nurses (FCNs), students, healthcare providers, church members, and health ministries. Respondents were positive about the app, provided suggestions for improvement, and welcomed FCNs extending their role into pregnancy-related care.
