New ferroelectric liquid crystal mixture with improved low temperature characteristics and voltage threshold for LCOS and SLM

Ferroelectric liquid crystals (FLCs) have two attractive characteristics: very fast switching speeds and stable alignment against the electrical fringe field effects from neighboring pixels. Therefore, we believe FLCs are suitable for realizing high-resolution and high-density small-sized display panels, such as those used in AR/VR applications. In 2024, we succeeded in developing a new FLC for LCOS and SLM that has an improved temperature range for the SmC phase and is less prone to alignment defects. In this report, we present our success in developing a new FLC mixture that has improved low-temperature characteristics and voltage thresholds in addition while maintaining the favorable properties developed previously.
