The effectiveness of using a combined face mask during noninvasive lung ventilation

Objective. To evaluate the effectiveness of the method of noninvasive ventilation with a combined face mask on medical models in order to prevent possible complications. Materials and methods. A combined face mask for noninvasive ventilation with the possibility of enteral support was developed (Eurasian patent for invention No.046625 dated 03/29/2024). In order to evaluate the functionality, 400 experiments were conducted with modeling various clinical situations on medical models ADAM-X Xtreme and ADAM-X Xpert. Results. When using a combined face mask for noninvasive artificial ventilation of the lungs while providing enteral support in various clinical situations, a decrease in the risk of hypoxemia was noted due to the absence of leakage of the supplied gas mixture with a target SpO2 level from 90 to 99% versus 84–98% with traditional ventilation. Regurgitation with the combined mask developed in fewer cases. The use of the new device has made it possible to provide more adequate and uniform respiratory support with a greater therapeutic effect without compromising enteral support. Conclusions. The proposed combined face mask increases the effectiveness of respiratory support due to the greater tightness of the mask-medical model system. The proposed device allows not only nutritional support, but also decompression of the upper gastrointestinal tract, which helps reduce the risk of complications such as regurgitation and aspiration syndrome.
