Wearable DPI system with Offner optical layout for lightweight XR

The race to create lightweight AR glasses with high performance has been constrained by numerous barriers. Solving challenges such as an efficient and accurate eye-tracking system will help overcome these barriers. At VoxelSensors, we are working on the next generation of the Dual Purkinje Images (DPI) system. We moved one stage forward towards an Offner-based wearable eye-tracking device. We report on the challenges of the wearable DPI system and its stability of use. We describe the state machine for alignment, initiation, and calibration in the context of a wearable DPI and the need to constantly compensate for relative lateral movement between the system and the user. Over the years, various eye tracker technologies in their respective domains were differentiated by the device operation complexity, the ease of set up for a specific user, and their relation to performance and accuracy that the device is providing, and the position of the gaze and eye tracking performance in terms of jitter, gaze registration to the world, pupil size, saccade dynamics, and other relevant parameters.
