A rapid cancer screening by plasmonic InGaN quantum wells

Rapid and accurate detection is key to curing cancer. Unfortunately, current cancer screening technologies still face a trade-off between speed and accuracy. In this presentation, we demonstrate a new blood test with the potential to overcome this challenge. The test employs surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) built on Al-covered InGaN quantum wells (QWs). Specifically, a plasmonic coupling between Al and QWs was used to enhance and stabilize the SERS signals of blood, which were then examined by machine learning to extract the signals from cancer. According to the clinical study with 126 cases, blood test in this way can deliver the accuracies of 99% for lung cancer, 97% for breast cancer, 97% for endometrial cancer, 93% for colorectal cancer, and 93% for pancreatic cancer. This cancer screening only requires a plasma droplet of 2μL, and can be completed in 25 minutes.
