This exercise presents a workflow for reconstructing the base year for the Service sector in the Model for Analysis of Energy Demand (MAED). By the end of this exercise, you will be able to: Collect and process the necessary inputs required to reconstruct the base year energy demand for the Service sector in MAED. Required data include: national GDP, sectoral shares of GDP, population and labour force statistics, floor area indicators, final energy demand from a national energy balance, energy intensities, fuel penetration by end use, and energy conversion efficiencies. Derive key parameters used in the MAED Service sector module, including labour force in the service sector, total commercial floor area, specific energy requirements for space heating and air conditioning, useful energy demand for thermal uses, and energy intensities for motive power, appliances, and other thermal uses. Validate the reconstructed base year by comparing the model results with the observed final energy demand from the national energy balance to ensure consistency of the calibration.
