Training Methods for Developing Throwing Performance of Intermediate Athletes: A Literature Review

Throwing performance defined by metrics such as velocity, distance, and technique quality is essential across many sports including handball, baseball, javelin, and track and field throwing events. Intermediate athletes often reach performance plateaus due to the complex interaction of strength, biomechanics, technique, and power development. This review synthesizes contemporary research on training approaches that support improvements in throwing performance for intermediate athletes. Key methods reviewed include resistance training, core training, specific strength programs, weighted implement training, plyometrics, and integrated technical development, with analysis of evidence for effects on throwing velocity and distance. The study highlights that the development of throwing performance in intermediate athletes is best achieved through a comprehensive and integrated training approach. The evidence indicates that training effectiveness depends not only on the selection of appropriate methods but also on their sequencing, intensity, and integration with technical skill development.
