Together for the Family – Interprofessional Collaboration in an Intensive Pediatric Rehabilitation Program

Objective: To explore how professionals in interprofessional rehabilitation teams collaborate on family-centered follow-up in an intensive rehabilitation program for preschool children with complex disabilities. Method: This qualitative study is based on two semi-structured focus group interviews with a total of nine professionals from two health trusts with experience from PIH Multi. The data were analyzed using reflexive thematic analysis inspired by Braun and Clarke. Results: The analysis identified three main themes: (1) Team collaboration for a holistic understanding of the family, (2) Parental involvement to create meaningful rehabilitation stays, and (3) Adaptation of the program to the family's individual needs. The findings show that interprofessional collaboration and parental involvement, according to professionals, are essential for developing measures that are perceived as relevant and feasible. Conclusion: Interprofessional collaboration and parental involvement appear as mutually reinforcing elements in the realization of a family-centered approach. Through shared understanding and coordinated efforts, the rehabilitation program can be tailored to the family's needs and contribute to increased coping and quality of life.
