tert-Butyl Magnesium Chloride: Homogeneous Sacrificial Reductant for the Fast Nickel-Catalyzed Cross-Electrophile Coupling of Alkyl and Aryl Iodides

Cross-electrophile coupling under nickel catalysis is a powerful approach for assembling aryl and alkyl electrophiles.Herein, we report that tertbutylmagnesium chloride is an efficient homogeneous reductive reagent for the coupling of aryl-and primary or secondary alkyl iodides.The reaction proceeds at room temperature in a non-amide solvent and reaches the completion with one hour.The reaction conditions are mild enough to tolerate ester, amide, carbamate and sulfonate groups.
