Model predictive control of nine-switch and eleven-switch converter topologies with switching frequency constrains

The following work presents a predictive control scheme for a nine-switch converter and an eleven-switch converter. The nine-switch converter’s topology is based on two classic two-level converters sharing a positive and negative bus respectively. The great peculiarity of this topology is that it allows the independent operation of two three-phase loads with a single DC-Link. Otherwise, the eleven-switch has two extra switches between the DC-Link and the nine-switch topology fo the reduction of the common-mode voltage (CMV). Different control schemes and modulation types have been presented for the converter in question, but this work will address a predictive control scheme in order to achieve independent control of two three-phase loads without the need for a PWM modulation scheme. Additionally, it is possible to control the switching frequency of the switches, the frequency, and voltage of the loads independently. On the other hand, a power loss study is conducted on the converter to determine their distribution, in order to have a design factor that defines the equipment in its application-specific operations. Finally, the results will be validated by the Hardware In The Loop (HIL).
