Exploring The Teacher Exchange Program Through the Lens of International Educators

This study explores the experiences of international exchange teachers in a Teacher Exchange Program (TEP) and examines the program's impact on their professional development and cultural competence. The study's objectives were to investigate the challenges faced by international exchange teachers, explore the support systems provided by the school and district, and identify strategies to enhance their experience. A qualitative narrative inquiry research design was employed, involving interviews and observations with ten (10) international exchange teachers. The findings revealed that international exchange teachers encountered challenges related to cultural adaptation, language barriers, and classroom management. However, the study also highlighted the positive impact of the TEP on their professional growth and cultural competence. The support systems provided by the school and district, including cultural orientation, mentorship programs, and regular check-ins, were instrumental in facilitating a successful experience for the teachers. The study concludes that fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment, promoting cultural understanding, and offering professional development opportunities are crucial for maximizing the program's benefits.
