Electrophoretic Determination of Bromides in Body Fluids

Capillary electrophoresis with UV detection is used to monitor bromides in blood plasma, urine, and gastric juice of pigs as laboratory organisms. For analysis, 20 µL of body fluid is used, which is treated by 60 µL of acetonitrile with 2 mM KSCN as an internal standard. Separation is performed in 90 mM sodium tetraborate with the addition of 10 mM NaCl at pH 9.2. Under these experimental conditions, the migration time of bromides is 2.1 min, the limit of detection ranges from 48 to 51 µM, and the limit of quantification from 148 to 171 µM for individual body fluids. The relative standard deviation values for migration time are less than 0.1 % and for peak area in the range of 1.9–2.5 %. The developed methodology is used for time monitoring of bromides in clinical samples after intravenous administration of NaBr to a laboratory animal at a dose of 50 mg kg–1 and applied for research in the field of anaesthesiology and resuscitation.
