A comprehensive summary of the characteristics of the study area, ecosystem and soil parameters, and statistical metrics for lead (Pb), cadmium (Cd), copper (Cu), and zinc (Zn) concentration (ppm) in in plant organs of Chaenomeles japonica (Thunb.) Lindl. ex Spach and associated soil samples from northern Ukraine (n=5)

A comprehensive summary of the characteristics of the study area, ecosystem and soil parameters, and statistical metrics for lead (Pb), cadmium (Cd), copper (Cu), and zinc (Zn) concentration (ppm) in plant organs of Chaenomeles japonica and associated soil samples from northern Ukraine (n=5) are presented. The study was conducted at nine distinct locations within the Chernihiv region, Ukraine, representing a gradient of anthropogenic transformation. The sampling sites were categorized into four ecosystem types: rural forest–dominant (RF) (Areas 1, 2), rural residential (RR) (Areas 3, 4), suburbanized (SU) (Areas 5, 6, 7), and urbanized (UR) (Areas 8, 9). The samples of soil and plant parts were collected exclusively from sites where the population of C. japonica was not less than 1 m². The content of mobile forms of cadmium (Cd), lead (Pb), copper (Cu), and zinc (Zn) in the soil samples was determined in an ammonium acetate buffer extract at pH 4.8 using atomic absorption spectrophotometry, in accordance with the National Standard of Ukraine: DSTU 4770.3:2007, DSTU 4770.6:2007, DSTU 4770.9:2007, and DSTU 4770.2:2007, respectively. The concentration of heavy metals (Cd, Pb, Cu, and Zn) in the prepared soil and plant extracts was determined by atomic absorption spectrophotometry using a Varian SpectrAA 240Z AA DUO spectrometer (Agilent Technologies, USA).
