Ishakidris ascitaspis Bolton, 1984 Figs 2, 4 –6 Type material examined. Holotype, pinned worker, Malaysia • Sarawak, 4 th Division, Gunung Mulu National Park, litter sample, Camp 5, 4.043864, 114.927682, V.-VIII.1978, leg. P. M. Hammond & J. E. Marshall (NHMUK: CASENT 0249428). Non-type material examined. 6 pinned workers, MYS: • Sabah, Kinabalu P., Serinsim S. 6.2765°N, 116.6912°E ± 20 m 759 m asl, 13.iii.2025, LLex. 4 m 2 [leg.] MT Hamer et al. Primary Forest. (HKBM: ANTWEB 1011117; IBBL: ANTWEB 1010689; KPSP: ANTWEB 1010689; NHMUK: ANTWEB 1065031; FHGC: ANTWEB 1065030; ZRC: ANTWEB 1011118). Virtual dataset, the digital dataset of a non-type worker (ANTWEB 1065030) is publicly available at Zenodo (https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.18712405). It includes the volumetric raw data (in DICOM format), a full body 3 D surface model (in PLY format), and still images of various body parts from surface volume renderings of 3 D models (in PNG format) (Figs 4, 5, 6), as well as stacked digital color images of the head in full-face view, along with profile and dorsal views of the body (in TIFF format). In addition to the data at Zenodo, an interactive 3 D surface model is also publicly accessible at Sketchfab (https://skfb.ly/pBxCs). Diagnosis. Worker. Mandibles with 9 teeth and a three denticles between tooth 2 (preapical) and tooth 3 (Fig. 10 B). Dorsal surface of mandibles coarsely sculptured throughout, including near the basal portion (Fig. 10 B). Gena below antennal scrobe distinctly rugose (Figs 2 A, 4 G). Frontal lobes with dense, longitudinal striae covering nearly the entire surface (Figs 2 C, 4 A). Subgenal carina well developed and continuous, extending from the occipital margin to the mandibular base (Figs 4 E, 11 B). Occipital carina flat and indistinct (Figs 2 A, 4 G). Occiput with two prominent ridges on each side of the occipital foramen (Fig. 12 B). In full-face view, the occipital margin is deeply concave, and the lateral corners slightly acute (Figs 2 C, 4 A). Postgenal bridge strongly protruding ventrally (Figs 4 G, 7 G, 11). Pronotal plateau with a smooth and simple lateral margin, overlapping the anterior pronotum (Fig. 4 A, B). Mesosomal dorsum with a small, unpaired blunt spine at the anterior margin of the propodeum, sometimes nearly inconspicuous (Figs 2 A, 5 A – D). In profile, the propodeum slopes posteriorly, forming a steep transition between the promesonotum and propodeal dorsum (Fig. 2 A). Dorsal face of propodeum separated from the posterior face by a single carina (Fig. 5 C). First gastral sternite with a short longitudinal carina that only extends for a third of the sternite (Figs 2 A, 6 E, 6 F). Distribution and biology. Ishakidris ascitaspis was known only to occur in Gunung Mulu National Park, Sarawak, East Malaysia on the island of Borneo. Specimens recently collected during leaf litter sampling in a lowland mature forest in Kinabalu Park have expanded its known distribution within East Malaysia to the state of Sabah.
