Quantitative Study of Elderly Openness to Senior Living

Many factors influence the perception and openness of the elderly toward senior living. We examined the relationship between personal characteristics, chronic illness, daily living activity, family-dependent preference, environment fit, continuity lifestyle preferences before retirement, and community support awareness with openness to senior living. A cross-sectional survey was designed with 100 elderly people. Research findings suggest that environment fit and continuing lifestyle preferences before retirement were significantly related to openness to senior living. The elderly who have the ability to adapt are 2.6 times more likely, and those who try to maintain their lifestyle as before retirement are 2.8 times more likely to accept life in senior living.
