“… and His Brothers” (Matt 1:2, 11)

Abstract The article focuses on the references to the brothers of Judah and Jeconiah in Matthew’s genealogy (Matt 1:2, 11). After discussing the hypotheses put forward so far, it proposes interpreting the phrase καὶ τοὺς ἀδελφοὺς αὐτοῦ , which disrupts the sequence of the genealogy twice, as referring to the salvific expectation of the gathering of the twelve tribes of Israel, indicated in his gospel as the purpose of Jesus’ mission.
