Clinical and pathogenetic features of the effect of osteoporosis on thromboembolic complications after total knee replacement

Reducing the incidence of thromboembolic complications after major orthopedic surgeries, such as endoprosthetics of large joints of the lower extremities, is an important task of clinical pharmacology. Despite all the achievements of prevention and the available data on approaches to risk stratification, this group of complications does not lose its importance. The present study provides data indicating the statistical significance of the effect of osteoporosis on the development of symptomatic deep vein thrombosis of the lower extremities within six months after total knee replacement. The pathogenetic links of this phenomenon are considered and the theoretical justification of the potential preventive effect on them is given, not only from the point of view of the duration of pharmacoprophylaxis, but also by connecting the pharmacological effect on bone metabolism.
