Enhancement Training Program for Junior High School Araling Panlipunan Teachers

This study aimed to developed an enhanced training design that strengthens teacher’s pedagogical and content competencies in teaching Araling Panlipunan. It was administered to the Grade 7 Araling Panlipunan students and teachers. The instrument used was the Achievement Test developed and validated by the Notre Dame Educational Association. Teachers’ performance data were gathered through the Individual Performance Commitment and Review Form and survey questionnaires aligned with the Philippine Professional Standards for Teachers. The results indicated that the Grade 7 student’s proficiency level in Araling Panlipunan, falls under the developing level. The content area with the lowest mean may point to content that are relatively more less effectively delivered. For teachers, four dimensions received a performance of outstanding. Based on the findings, it was concluded that the overall proficiency of students in Araling Panlipunan across various content areas- remained mostly at the “Developing” level. On the other hand, the teaching performance of Araling Panlipunan teachers, as rated by IPCRF, revealed Outstanding ratings in 4 domains. It is highly recommended that an enhanced teacher training program for Araling Panlipunan teachers be implemented with a strong focus on developing strategic teaching approaches that promote the integration of cognitive skills in content delivery.
