Internationalization Indicators in QS Rankings

Global competition in higher education has intensified due to the influence of international ranking systems, particularly the QS World University Rankings. Internationalization indicators, including international students, faculty, and globally co-authored research, play a key role in shaping institutional visibility and prestige. This study examines how these factors influence competitive positioning within the QS framework. It analyzes the weighting of international students and faculty and the impact of international research collaboration on overall rankings. The paper also explores institutional strategies such as cross-border partnerships, student mobility, and collaborative research networks. At the same time, it highlights challenges faced by institutions in developing regions, including limited resources and restricted access to global networks. The findings suggest that internationalization improves global recognition only when aligned with institutional goals and academic quality, calling for a more contextual and balanced interpretation of ranking metrics.
