Self-Training Emotional Intelligence Through Social Networks

Abstract This chapter examines the role of social networks in fostering self-training of emotional intelligence (EI) among students within digital environments. It highlights the challenges posed by algorithm-driven platforms, such as behavioral manipulation, emotional coercion, and limited awareness of recommendation mechanisms. To address these issues, this chapter introduces the artificial intelligence (AI)-based educational tool Somekone, which simulates social media platforms and visualizes students’ digital footprints. By tracking interactions, constructing personalized emotional profiles, and revealing algorithmic influence, Somekone enables learners to reflect on how their actions shape both their online identity and emotional responses. Classroom practices demonstrate how transparent visualization of data and recommendation clustering can enhance students’ critical awareness, emotional self-regulation, and resilience. The findings indicate that experiential exploration of algorithmic manipulation not only strengthens students’ digital literacy but also provides them with strategies to manage emotions more effectively, thus supporting mental health and overall well-being in a technology-driven society.
