Monitoring of Eurasian lynx (Lynx lynx) in the National Nature Park Boikivshchyna (Ukrainian Carpathians)

Based on the analysis of field data collected using camera traps and winter tracking, a preliminary assessment of the lynx population in the Boykivshchyna National Nature Park has been carried out. Given its cluster structure, the Boykivshchyna NNP borders four nature protected areas, two of which are located in Ukraine (the Uzhanskyi NP and the Skolivski Beskydy NNP) and two in Poland (the Bieszczady National Park and the Dolina Sanu Regional Park). This unique location of the Boykivshchyna NNP facilitates the migration of lynxes to this area from neighbouring nature-protected areas and ensures the functioning of ecological corridors for large carnivorous mammals from the Polish part of the Carpathians and Transcarpathia to the nature-protected areas of the Lviv Region. As of early 2025, we estimated the lynx number in the Park to be between 3–4 individuals.
