The Socratic Dialogue That Restores the Enchantment of the World

This chapter investigates the method applied in the project “The Legacy of the Second World War in the Memory of the Third Generation,” which collects a corpus of video interviews with Italian people born between the 1960s and the 1980s. The interviews are dialogues developed according to the Socratic dialeghestai, which is based on listening and understanding and is aimed at developing a critical reflection that starts with the recollections of the past to reach our contemporaneity. This chapter investigates how this methodology produces well-being in the witnesses in connection with the pleasure of remembering their childhood and grandparents. Eventually, it is claimed that the interviewees' well-being partially derives from aesthetic pleasure and, by referring to Fischer-Lichte's aesthetics, the interviewer is defined as a maieutic director.
