The main activities of human resource management (HRM), as staffing, training and development, and staff retention, all have to be in line with the business strategy of the given organization and should contribute to its success. HRM practice has a significant impact on the individual-level and organizational performances, too. The AMO model has grouped HRM activities to those which influence Ability, Motivation and Opportunity of the employees and ensures better understanding of the HRM activities and their impact on employee satisfaction. Today, for higher education institutions it is important to develop their performances through the implementation of HRM activities. The aim of this paper is to analyze the influence of HRM activities classified by the AMO model on the job satisfaction of academic staff in the higher educational institutions in Serbia based on data obtained by an on-line survey conducted in year 2019. The results show that between general job satisfaction and HRM activities influencing Ability, Motivation and Opportunity, there are positive statistically significant strong correlations.
