Mangiferin and dampwood termites: contrasting behavioural responses in Prorhinotermes sp.

This poster reports the behavioural responses of Prorhinotermes sp. and Coptotermes gestroi to mangiferin in a 96-hour microcosm assay. Cellulose beads coated with 1% mangiferin were tested under controlled humidity and temperature conditions. Prorhinotermes sp. showed rapid avoidance of treated beads, whereas C. gestroi continued to interact with the treated substrate and did not display obvious avoidance. No clear excess mortality was observed at 96 hours. These findings suggest that mangiferin may act primarily as a species-specific behavioural modulator, with greater potential for localized repellency against Prorhinotermes sp. than for baiting by ingestion or transfer.
