Reflections from working on a multicultural project within the Birmingham community learning disability team

This article shares the reflections of Nithya Venkitaraman and Marva Mirzai, Assistant Psychologists (AP) in the Birmingham Community Learning Disabilities Psychology Service during our active involvement in the Multicultural Project that was a strand of the Trust’s Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) initiative. As immigrant AP, our perspectives emerged throughout the project, revealing unexpected complexities, personal biases, emotions, and the dynamics of roles and power. Easy to read summary ■ We are assistant psychologists working in a Learning Disabilities (LD) Service in Birmingham. ■ Our service is trying to make it easier to use for people with learning disabilities who belong to different cultures and communities. ■ In this article, we share some of our thoughts and feelings around the importance of this project. ■ We also talk about our experience of being involved in this project as people who come from different ethnic backgrounds.
