Promoting the One Health Approach to the Community: Teaching About the One Health Concept and Approach in a Secondary School That Specializes in the Food Industry in La Cumbre, Córdoba, Argentina

Abstract The purpose of this project was to actively engage students in solving local, regional, and global health problems by understanding and applying the “One Health” concept. It developed essential skills such as autonomy, teamwork, and critical and creative thinking, and acquired practical knowledge and tools to address public health challenges, such as emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases, antimicrobial resistance, environmental contamination, food safety and food security issues, and zoonotic outbreaks. Students had worked closely with the community and, under the guidance of professionals with diverse backgrounds, participated in field research, data analysis, and awareness campaigns, unveiling the necessity of community intervention programs. Through these experiences, students gained an understanding of the interconnectedness between humans, animals, and environmental health, and they became agents of change, promoting sustainable and equitable practices that benefit the entire community.
