Monitoring of the Eurasian lynx (Lynx lynx) in the Carpathian Biosphere Reserve

The paper highlights some of the results of monitoring of the Eurasian lynx in the Carpathian Biosphere Reserve. The monitoring methods used in the reserve are described, in particular, the SMART patrol and monitoring system, camera traps, a comprehensive database. It has been established that accounting for the number of lynxes at the first snow and registration of random encounters of lynxes and traces of their vital activity during the year using the SMART system and camera traps are sources of information that complement each other and can give a fairly objective picture of the number of lynxes in a certain territory. It has also been found that the lynx avoids places where wolves are present. To mitigate the relationship between lynx and human, it is recommended to use electric fences to protect livestock
