In recent years, several insecticides primarily targeting piercing/sucking insects have encountered increased regulatory pressure. Starting from an internal compound and applying a tied-back strategy, we have discovered 2-(3-pyridinyl)-2 H -indazole carboxamides as a novel class of insecticides, which control piercing/sucking insects. Indazapyroxamet is a representative from this class and has been identified for commercial development. In this chapter, we discuss the discovery, optimization, and biological activity of this insecticide class. Mode of action studies have determined that indazapyroxamet is a chordotonal organ TRPV channel modulator acting on the same target protein as pymetrozine and deacetylated pyrifluquinazon.
