Tipula (Vestiplex) verecunda is known from the Russian Far East, China, Japan and South Korea (Jeju Island) (Oosterbroek 2025). This species is recorded here for the first time from North Korea. Remarks. Amongst Korean Tipula (Vestiplex) species, the male of Tipula (Vestiplex) verecunda can be recognised by the yellow body colouration with abdomen blackened at the tip, marbled wings, sternite 8 bearing long setae and sternite 9 having a ventral tubercle (Fig. 6 A). Prescutum and presutural scutum, with four ochraceous-grey stripes (Fig. 6 B), bordered by brown, interspaced light yellow. Postsutural scutal with each lobe having two ochraceous brownish-yellow spots bordered by brown. Females are generally similar to males in body colouration (Fig. 6 C) with cercus straight and smooth. Hypogynial valves elongated, blade-shaped.
