Fluazaindolizine

Fluazaindolizine is a new highly effective and selective imidazopyridine nematicide for the control of plant-parasitic nematodes which was identified by high-throughput screening against root-knot nematodes. Its specificity for nematodes coupled with absence of activity against common target sites of other nematicides suggests that it has a novel mode of action that is distinct from other commercial nematicides. Fluazaindolizine has a highly favorable toxicological and ecotoxicological profile. In particular, its safety profile for nontarget organisms makes it an ideal product for use in integrated pest management. Extensive biological characterization and field testing have demonstrated excellent control of a range of plant-parasitic nematodes, resulting in root protection and the potential for increased yield. The discovery process, structure-activity trends, and biological profile for this new class of nematicides will be discussed in detail.
