This manuscript presents the first DNA methylation array specifically designed for cattle. Over the past decade, sequencing-based approaches have extensively been used to identify DNA methylation changes associated with diverse phenotypes in cattle. In parallel, international initiatives have significantly advanced the functional annotation of the cattle genome. Drawing on these resources, we developed a high-throughput, robust, and cost-effective DNA methylation assay that could be used to study regulatory mechanisms underlying phenotypic variation and conduct large-scale association analyses in cattle.
