Pyropenes: Afidopyropen

Afidopyropen, marketed as Inscalis®, belongs to the chemical class of pyropenes and was launched by BASF in 2018 for controlling piercing and sucking insects. It has received registration in significant agricultural markets globally, with a primary focus on crops like cotton, soybean, fruits, and vegetables. Inscalis® is sold under various brand names such as Sefina™, Versys™, and Vinquo™. This insecticide is classified by IRAC as the sole member of the novel mode of action subgroup 9D pyropenes, which targets the chorodotonal organ TRPV channel modulators. By disrupting the normal function of the chordotonal organ, afidopyropen interferes with pests' locomotion, feeding, and reproduction. Inscalis® provides a selective foliar-applied treatment option that effectively controls common agricultural pests, including aphids, whiteflies, leafhoppers, psyllids, and scales. It has the potential to overcome resistance developed against other insecticides. The largest anticipated markets for Inscalis® are expected to be Brazil, China, India, and the United States.
