Chordotonal Organ Modulators – Undefined Target Site: Dimpropyridaz

As a result of our ongoing efforts to explore novel chemistries, we developed a new insecticide from an in vivo screening hit, the pyridazine pyrazolecarboxamide dimpropyridaz. The excellent activity of dimpropyridaz against a broad spectrum of piercing and sucking insects originates from the silencing of sensory neurons of chordotonal organs. As a result, treated insects become disoriented, uncoordinated, and unable to feed, resulting in dehydration and death. Dimpropyridaz exhibits systemic properties and targets a new site in chordotonal organs distinct from insecticides in main groups 9 and 29. It was, therefore, classified by Insecticide Resistance Action Committee (IRAC) as a member of the novel main group 36. An overview of the structure–activity relationship, synthesis, mode of action, biological spectrum, and safety profile of dimpropyridaz will be presented in this chapter.
