Evolutionary conservation and homology analysis of ORF104 in the Streptococcus genus: Identification of VanZ-family motifs

This dataset provides the evolutionary evidence for the ORF104 peptide (50 aa) identified within the Streptococcus sanguinis genome. We conducted a high-sensitivity homology search using the BLASTp-short algorithm, optimized with a PAM30 scoring matrix and a Word Size of 3 to account for the small sequence size. The results reveal significant homology (E-value < 1e-12) with the VanZ protein family across multiple Streptococcus species, including S. mutans and S. constellatus. These findings indicate that ORF104 is a conserved functional element rather than a genomic artifact, potentially involved in cell surface modification or antibiotic resistance pathways within the Streptococcus genus
