Draft genomes of Streptomyces sapporonensis DSM 41493T and Streptomyces malaysiensis DSM 41534 and revival of Streptomyces sapporonensis nom. rev.

Abstract This study reports the genome sequences of Streptomyces malaysiensis DSM 41534 and the type strain of Streptomyces sapporonensis DSM 41493 T and explores their biosynthetic potential using genome mining approach. Comparative genomic analyss revealed notable differences in genome size (6.7–11.7 Mb), G + C content (71.0–72.5%), and biosynthetic gene cluster content. Digital DNA–DNA hybridization values between the genomes of strains DSM 41493 T and DSM 41534 and their closest phylogenomic relatives confirmed their assignment to S . sapporonensis (99.7%) and S. malaysiensis (86.9%), respectively. However, the digital DNA-DNA hybridization value between the genomic sequences of the type strains of S. sapporonensis and Streptomyces cinnamoneus species (considered as synonyms) was 28.4% (below the 70% threshold for prokaryotic species demarcation), confirming their distinct species rank. This study calls for reviving the name of this species, S. sapporonensis nom. rev., with the same type strain. The strains possessed multiple biosynthetic gene clusters encoding for diverse classes of metabolites, highlighting their potential for the discovery of novel natural products.
